PROBABLY MY FAVOURITE CABLE….

The pattern contains instructions for a Jacket and Traditional hat to fit 16″, 18″, 20″ and 22″ chest and the end product is larger as it is a jacket.  By extending the length of the arms and body on the largest size, it would easily fit a 3 year old.  Some experience is required.

Sylvia Parker is an Aran Knitting Pattern available to purchase in PDF form for immediate download or to have printed and posted to you (UK only) for a flat fee of £2.95 to cover postage and packaging – so you’re always best ordering a couple of patterns together!

  • PDF downloads are available immediately after purchase and can be printed off on your own printer if you desire; links are valid for 7 days.
  • Printed & Posted patterns are printed in full colour on 120gsm office paper.  Patterns are sent 1st Class Royal Mail delivery in hard-backed envelopes and protective sleeves to ensure they arrive to you in the best possible condition.

Description

This pattern is a lot easier than it looks.  The pattern consists of 12 rows of which only one is where you need to cable so it is a lot faster than usual to knit up!  I found this particular technique of cabling when I was looking for something else on YouTube. It was in a foreign language; I have absolutely no idea from where, and I watched the video over and over until I understood!  I just love the unusual cable and think the rib shows it off particularly well.  I intend to experiment with the cable in the future to see what I can create!

I have called this pattern Sylvia Parker.  Because I stumbled upon this technique by accident I felt a friendship that happened when I wasn’t looking or expecting one – deserved recognition!  It all happened by accident if you like… I don’t crochet (I’m learning!) and I spotted some beautiful makes on a knitting site I wanted to buy for a relation.

The lady that made them was Sylvia and she was so lovely to deal with and so friendly I often asked her for guidance as I had just started selling my own knits.  I soon invited Sylvia to join me on my page as I felt it would give my customers much more variety and choice.  Sylvia also has her own page – Bellisimo Bambino, which you can visit by clicking here.  Over the last few years Sylvia has been such a support; not only in technical/marketing stuff, but also when I became a full time carer for my mother.  Being a carer can be very lonely and isolating and Sylvia would always sense when I was a bit down and really make me laugh. She is daft, funny, smart, talented, kind, loved and loving.  This one’s for you girl xx

My Irish roots have inspired my love of the Aran style of knitting and I have introduced a modern twist to my creations.  Some experience is required to knit this beautiful pattern and it is suitable for a boy or girl.

Size Guide:  The pattern for a Hat and Jacket has instructions to fit 16″, 18″, 20″ and 22″ chest and the end product is larger as it is a jacket.  By extending the length of the arms and body on the largest size, it would easily fit a 3 year old.

Wool & yarn recommendation…

I often get asked which wool I use and who my yarn supplier is!  For this knit I have used Stylecraft Special Aran which I selected for its softness, it is very gentle on a baby’s skin.  There are over 88 different shades available through LoveCrafts, who are my preferred yarn and wool supplier.  (Spend over £25 to get free P&P and sign up their newsletter for 15% off your first order!)… I would also recommend Paintbox Aran for this pattern.

I also enjoyed knitting this. Pattern is quite unique. I did find the cable row quite hard but that was due to a shoulder injury. I had to take it carefully but got there in the end. Beautiful pattern
